ELBOW: Audio Vertigo Tour
I was brought onto this project by Studio Flint to provide IMAG grading to accompany the tours visuals.
Under the creative direction of Leo Flint, I designed of number of heavily graded looks to match the grungy, abstract and atmospheric aesthetic of the tour.
Alongside the IMAG looks I also modelled a replica of the bands 'ELBOW' sign which featured on a Graham Norton performance. I was able to make the dimensions identical to the real life variant using the designers CAD plans, from there I brought it into Notch and could map animated textures onto the lightbulbs. Controls were exposed for the diguise operator to switch textures through the track, adjust the colour of the bulbs as well as the brightness all in real time.
One track, 'Dexter/Sinister' required a heavily textured style that resembled screwed up paper that had been unfolded. After some tests in 2D I decided the best way to achieve this was by modelling the paper myself and piping in the camera feeds through materials in Notch.
This workflow worked perfectly for what we wanted to achieve and was polished with bespoke textures created by Luke Davies that I could overlay as alpha textures to achieve paper tears and pieces of tape over the model.
Rehearsals happened in Hull with a warm up show happening before the load out and the first show of the tour happening in Brighton the following day.
