The King Rooks: I Hate You Music Video
This was a very fun project for us to get involved with.
Having known the guitarist Jack for some years, it was a pleasure to be asked to design and edit a Music video for their upcoming track "I Hate You".
We were given full control of the creative direction with our only reference being the singles artwork, which featured the iconic Nokia 3310. This led to the idea of using the phone as the core element for the video.
The entire video was created inside Notch VFX and then edited together using DaVinci Resolve.
Using Notch let us be very flexible with creating content for the video. We were able to recreate the iconic Nokia UI entirely inside Notch with simple 2D primitives (aside from the voice mail icon, which featured a re-comp of the phone itself).
Notch also allowed us to create the content in a dynamic setting, such as the text typing and character counter. The counter was reacting live to the text itself, minimizing the updates needed if the band wished to change the text at any point.
A great boon was ingesting footage into the phone screens, something Notch does with ease and gave the content a nice variety while adding a personal touch from the band members as they sang along to the chorus.
We also provided a short loop which is featured on the songs Spotify page.
